Who We Are

For Team 1816, we don’t define ourselves by the trophies on our shelves, but by the systemic changes we ignite within our community. As a FIRST Hall of Fame team, our mission is to serve as a catalyst for a world where STEM isn't just an elective, but a fundamental right, accessible to every student.

Our most profound impact lies in our legislative advocacy. We don't just build robots; we build the policies to ensure others can build them. By successfully lobbying the MSHSL to recognize robotics as a varsity sport, we shifted the cultural needle, granting student-athletes in STEM the same recognition and support as traditional sports.

Internally, our goal is defined by our Core Values Covenant. By prioritizing respect, trust, and inclusivity, we create a "safe-to-fail" environment where students are empowered to take risks. Our philosophy ensures that our members graduate not just with technical proficiency, but with the emotional intelligence and leadership skills needed to navigate complex professional challenges. We are proud to see our alumni entering the workforce as compassionate innovators who lead with Gracious Professionalism.

Additionally, our team offers scholarships to maintain our accessibility to all students who are qualified and eager to participate. We believe that financial barriers should not prevent a student from reaching their potential, or inhibit their growth and education. Any contributions we receive first cover their registration, travel, and tool costs, ensuring that economic background is not a factor in who we consider to be a valuable teammate.

Ultimately, the impact of The Green Machine is a multiplier effect. Every team we mentor, every bill we help pass, and every student we inspire creates a ripple that extends far beyond Edina. We are here to prove that a robotics team can be the most effective leadership in the world of engineering, developing the thinkers and doers who will solve the problems of tomorrow.
